The first band I’m going to feature here is lowercase, from Saint Louis, Missouri. I found these guys on purevolume the other day. They’re currently on the scream it like you mean tour along with several other great bands. Check out it out on myspace. I love these guys catchy guitar riffs and lyrics. You can download the song Pause, Repeat…Just Breathe on their purevolume page or if you don’t wanna download it, check the band out on myspace. Add these guys to your playlist now and then when they make it big you can say you knew them way back when.

Part 1: The first wave

Emo started in the mid-1980s (That makes me as old as emo! w00t) in Washington, DC with bands such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and Moss Icon. Occasionally members would become extremely emotional during their performences, hence the term emo. Wikipedia says Dischord Records was the original emo label.

Not many of these first wave emo bands are around anymore, but if you’re really interested try googling them and I’m sure you’ll find something.

First off, this is only my opinion. I am not teh emo master! I’m just a music lover that doesn’t quite understand this whole new scene. What’s with the crazy fashions and attitude? Wasn’t emo supposed to be about the music? Emo is a term that’s changed tremendously during the past few years. What did it originaly mean? What is it now? I’ll start my journey at the Emo Music entry at Wikipedia…
